"Photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing
and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth
which can make them come back again"
                                                                         Henri Cartier Bresson

My name is Yara Jahrling. I have always thought my name
describes exactly who I am.  I am a photographer. I am an
artist. I am a dancer. I am just a person who loves art.

I picked up my first camera when I was 8. It resulted in a roll of
badly framed shots of my younger brother and sister wearing
pajamas and vampire teeth. I was hooked. I started studying
seriously in high school, and fell head over heels for the art in
college. There was magic in the darkroom...something about
slaving over a photograph in the basement of a giant, cold
building for 6 hours at a time, breathing in chemicals to the
company of nothing but a red light and a CD on permanent
repeat in my discman just gave me a rush (or maybe that was
the chemicals...). Then I discovered digital photography, and
while my love of the darkroom has not changed, it has been
outweighed by the freedom of digital film. I started exploring
motion photography and prolonged exposures. I graduated
magna cum laude from Muhlenberg College in 2005, armed
with my BA in Dance and Photography and sheer excitement
for things to come.

Three years later I find myself living in Frederick, MD. I recently
graduated from Maryland College Institute of Art, earning my MA
in Digital Arts. I am excited for this new chapter of my life. I am
excited to put my skills towards my new work. I am excited to
continually improve myself and my business. I am just excited.
I earn my living as a dance instructor and photographer. I do
headshots, dance photography, event photography, publicity
shots, group shots, team photos, performance work,
consumer shots, and really anything that is legal for me to
capture with a camera. It's just me, so I am better equipped for
one-photographer events. But check out my work, drop me a
line, and help me to help you expose yourself on camera.
