Advertisement posters for Muhlenberg
College dance concerts
(right image, and two below).
I started designing these because the
department used dated photographs
of dancers who had long since
graduated. The excitement of the new
choreography and explosion of dance
was never quite portrayed in these old
posters. I hoped I could add a little
spice and inspire the presence of
some new audience members. All
photography and poster design by
Yara Jahrling.
I interned with the Tiffany Mills Company in New York for several months after graduating
from Muhlenberg. I helped to plan a benefit gala for her company and Tiffany asked me to
photograph their performance. Upon seeing the photographs, she requested that I 'play' with
the images to give them a different feel, so they were rougher and lost the smooth contour, to
make them seem both painterly and etched. She wanted the posters to echo the voice of the
choreography. I enjoyed defacing my work.
